Walk 10 min along the river towards Asahi Beer Hall, the golden building with the weird flame/poop thing on top (everyone argues what it is). Snap the reflection in the glass across the street, Skytree + golden turd + old temple in one frame, peak Tokyo chaos.

Quick jump on the Tobu line (2 stops) to Kaminarimon, grab a matcha ice cream, then walk through Nakamise street just for the vibe, but keep moving.

Mid-morning – Roppongi Art Triangle
Train to Roppongi (Hibiya line, 25 min). Exit at Roppongi station and you’re already inside Roppongi Hills. Go straight up to Mori Tower 52F, first the Sky Deck (open air, 270 m, wind in your face), then down to the Mori Art Museum on 53F. The museum is always solid, but the real star is the view from the indoor gallery windows, city looks like a circuit board. Current show when I did this was some wild digital art, perfect mood.

Come out around 12:30, hungry.

Lunch: hit Gonpachi in Nishi-Azabu (5 min walk, the Kill Bill restaurant). Sit upstairs, order soba and yakitori, stare at the crazy wooden structure that looks like a spaceship made of logs.

Afternoon – Odaiba future zone
Train to Shimbashi then Yurikamome driverless train over Rainbow Bridge (do it, the view is stupid good). Get off at Daiba. First thing you see: the giant Unicorn Gundam statue outside DiverCity. It does a little show every half hour, lights and smoke, pure anime come to life.

Walk along the water to teamLab Borderless (now permanently in Azabudai Hills actually, wait no, 2024 update: the big one moved to Toranomon-Azabudai, but there’s still teamLab Planets in Toyosu, 10 min taxi). Go Planets if you want the immersive one with water and mirrors. Shoes off, pants rolled up, you walk through knee-deep water with koi fish projected swimming around your feet. Mind officially blown.

Late afternoon – back to reality, sort of
From Planets take Yurikamome to Shiodome, walk into the Caretta building just to see the crazy glass canyon atrium, then 5 min to Ginza Six rooftop garden, super sleek, quiet, perfect sunset spot over the city.

Evening closer – Tokyo International Forum
Last train to Yurakucho (2 min). Walk into the Forum’s giant glass ship hall at blue hour. The steel ribs light up, people look tiny underneath, feels like the inside of a whale made by engineers. Grab a craft beer at the little bar under the stairs, sit on the steps, let the whole day sink in.

Total damage: one day, four boroughs, zero boring moments. Wear sneakers, charge your phone twice, and prepare to feel like you just walked through the year 2049 that actually already exists in Tokyo.
