The Original Spark
It started on a rainy afternoon in Helsinki, sitting inside Oodi library, watching snow fall through those huge wavy windows. One of us said: “Why don’t travel guides ever talk about how a city actually looks and feels, not just what you’re supposed to see?”
Three coffees later MDZYN had a name, a sketch on a napkin and zero common sense. Perfect beginning.
What We Actually Believe
Great design isn’t luxury — it’s oxygen.
A perfectly placed bench, a door handle that fits your hand like it was waiting for you, light that turns an ordinary street golden at 7:12 pm exactly — these tiny details decide if a place stays in your heart or just your camera roll.
We chase those details so you can find them without ten years of obsession.
Who’s Behind This
Two nomads who got tired of bad hotel lobbies:
Anna — ex-architect, can spend 40 minutes photographing one staircase and call it work.
Leo — photographer & compulsive map-drawer, still believes film is better and that every city has at least one perfect hidden courtyard.
Together we’ve walked more than 8,000 km of city streets in the last four years, just looking up.
How We Choose Cities & Spots
We only write about places we’ve personally fallen for, sat in, sketched, come back to at different times of day, sometimes in different seasons.
If we wouldn’t drag our best friend there at sunrise, it doesn’t make the cut.
The Quiet Goal
We want you to come home from a trip with fewer checklist photos and more moments when you stopped walking because something was simply too beautiful.
If one of our routes makes you miss your metro stop because you’re staring at a façade, we’ve done our job.
MDZYN = Modern Design in Destinations.
Took us three weeks and one bottle of wine to remove the vowels. Worth it.
Still a tiny independent project, zero investors, maximum stubborn love for well-designed cities.
Thanks for being here — let’s keep discovering them together.
